THOMASTON - Mr. Shelby Ellerbee, age 78, of Thomaston, Ga. died March 19, 2013 at his residence.

Mr Ellerbee was preceeded in death by his son, Joseph Daren Ellerbee; father and mother, Joe Lee and Mary Self Ellerbee; and sister, Mary Jo Ellerbee Atkins.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Turner Ellerbee; daughter, Mary MarShel Ellerbee, of Cumming, Ga.; grandson, Shelby Clifton Perry, of Thomaston; son-in-law, Marion “Clifton” Perry, of Thomaston; brother, Jimmy (Pam Ingram) Ellerbee, of Thomaston; sisters, “Shirley” Ellerbee (Carlton) Gill. of Marietta, Ga., Jeanette Ellerbee Blue, of Marietta, Ga; brother-in-law William “Bill” (Jenifer) Atkins, of Marietta, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews, along with a host of friends.

Shelby is a member of the Thomaston First United Methodist Church, where he served on a number of boards and committees. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Gordon Military College and Southern Tech, after which he worked with the Department of Transportation for 35 years until his retirement as Assistant State Right of Way Engineer. After his retirement, he and his wife, along with a number of friends, spent several years traveling and were fortunate enough to see much of the world. He then began his second career with the engineering and consulting firm of Moreland Altobelli, where he worked six years.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. from First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hail with a luncheon provided.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to First United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 707 Thomaston GA. 30286.

Coggins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
