During the debt ceiling debate in the summer of 2011, I proposed to the political leadership of both sides a pragmatic solution that a fifth grader could have easily grasped. All Congress had to do was offset the debt ceiling increase with equal spending cuts and revenue increases. Instead President Obama proposed “sequestration” which the Republican leadership went along with despite objections from the majority of their constituents.

Shamefully the Republicans reelected John Boehner as Speaker of the House even though his deals with the White House have been reckless. Government accounting gimmicks used by both parties to avoid their sworn duty are creating an onerous financial disaster for future generations. And while the media pounds Republicans for their foolishness; President Obama is praised for his supposed compromise.

Sequestration is nothing more than a reduction in spending increases. Before we can balance the Federal Budget all increases for the foreseeable future have to be frozen until we pay off our national debt ($16.5 trillion). Thus to put it candidly, sequestration is a manufactured crisis that is being used to scare federal workers and make Republicans appear heartless.

However the fact still remains that until we cut our federal workforce by 43 percent, raise the age requirements for Social Security and Medicare, and streamline our military; our debt will continue to increase. Any Senatorial or Congressional candidate who dismisses our financial dilemma is unworthy to serve the American people. Tough choices have to be made by representatives who are not worried about the next election. And the disapproval rating for Congress and the media shows a growing frustration with the DC hyperbole.

When President Obama said his administration was the most transparent Presidential Administration in recent history, I almost flipped over in my recliner. That kind of delusional attitudes is what I have written about for the last year and a half. Factually sequestration was his idea and now with the aid of the press, he is blaming the Republicans. Maybe while President Obama is playing golf with Tiger, he can blame Republicans for his slices into the woods.

If the estimate of government waste is 10 percent; that means $400 billion could be eliminated immediately. The sequestration cuts are only $120 billion from a $4 trillion annual Federal Budget. Therefore, the partisan fighting over this miniscule three percent is a laughable exhibition. When is the last time the media has asked President Obama a serious question - for the Benghazi cover up will eventually define this administration and President Obama’s legacy? Move importantly, it will take a long time for the national media to regain its integrity after its failure to serve the public as a watchdog for the Obama Administration unaccountability.

Nonetheless, the theatrical drama on Capitol Hill has become so ambivalent that it is hard to distinguish the good guys and gals from the arch-villains. Every rudimentary procedure requires self-grandiose promotion and every fixable problem becomes a non-winnable “main event.” Nothing of any major significance gets done because lobbyists write the legislation while Democrats and Republicans try to sell their snake oil remedy to the public.

Accordingly, sequestration is another production of stupidity brought to us by Congress and the White House. And though the media has given it four thumbs up; the public has given it the middle finger-for poor performances do not deserve applause. In a nutshell, he or she who seeks praise from their inner sanctum will find total idolization from their unwitting fanatics.
