Mr. James William “Billy” Blount, Sr., age 97, died in Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, February 8, 2013.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 10, at 4 p.m., at First United Methodist Church. Burial followed in South View Cemetery. Rev. Herb Flanders and Rev. Wayne Collins officiated.

Mr. Blount was a native of Upson County, born to Samuel Artis Blount and Velma Barner Blount. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, a member of the American Legion and Executive Assistant with the Thomaston Housing Authority and served as President of the Chamber of Commerce. For many years, Mr. Blount was Manager of the Thomaston Office of Georgia Natural Gas Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Blount is survived by daughter, Suzanne B. (Cliff) Bowles, Woodbury; son James W. “Bill” (Mary) Blount, Jr. , Thomaston; sister, Betty Stephens , Atlanta; brother, Sammy (Dorothy) Blount, Gainesville. Four grandchildren: Libby (Mike) Kinsaul, Thomaston; James William (Cherie) Blount, III, Thomaston; Kim (John) Martin, Thomaston; Will Bowles, Woodbury; five great grandchildren, Heather Kinsaul, Tulsa, Okla.; Jason Kinsaul, Thomasville; Conner Blount, Thomaston; Tanner Blount, Thomaston; Peyton Owens, Thomaston.
