Everywhere I turned last week there were interesting things going on in the world of sports. I just gotta comment on some of those. I just can’t help myself. Please allow me!
Yeah they played a big football game last week. It’s called the Super Bowl. In my opinion it is the most overblown media circus in all of sports. There is really no way that the actual game can live up to the pre-game hype. Do you get tired of all of the over-coverage that goes on for two weeks before the game? I certainly do!
Oh yeah the game. I didn’t watch too much of it, but I did seem to tune in at some opportune times. I saw the TD kickoff return to start the second half. I saw a couple of the 49’ers’ touchdowns that got them back in the game. And I was there for the blackout.
I was hoping that the 49’ers would win because I dislike the Ravens. San Francisco had a great chance to win, but some odd play calling inside the 10-yard line with the game on the line cost them that chance. The fourth down play was puzzling. Here you are fourth-and goal at the seven yards line with less than two minutes left in the game. The success of this one play determines the Super Bowl Champion! It writes sports’ history! The 49’ers blew it!
I have always despised the fade pass. It’s hard to throw, hard to catch, and hard to keep in bounds. It has to be a perfect throw and catch. With all of this to consider, the 49’ers called a form of the fade pass on this ultra-important play. It failed badly! Ravens win!
And my reason for disliking the Ravens is Ray Lewis. First of all, I think he has withheld important information pertaining to the two murders in Atlanta. He was there. He surely saw what happened. He knows who the murderers are. I am not saying he actually murdered anyone, but he knows some things he has not told authorities. And then again, maybe he was more involved than we know.
The whole NFL playoff period was dominated by Lewis. Every time I turned on the TV there was Lewis preaching and mouthing. He was sickening. I’m so glad he is retiring, but I am also very sorry that ESPN will make him a part of their broadcast teams next season. No ESPN for me!
I don’t like Ray Lewis! I think he is a fraud who wants all of the attention. Narcissistic is a good word for him. Some people comically say he is the best linebacker of all time. I don’t think he is even in the Top Ten all-time. Good Bye, Ray Lewis! Good riddance, Ray Lewis. Wash your face and disappear Ray Lewis! I’m not wasting any more of my column on this guy!
On another front, I am tired of turning on a college football or basketball game and hearing a female voice broadcasting the game. I am not being a sexist here, but I don’t want to hear a lady broadcasting a men’s game. I don’t know why the networks are trying to stick this down our throats. Put men in the booth for men’s games and use ladies in ladies’ games. That’s simple! I turn off every men’s game that has a female broadcaster. Agree or disagree, that’s how I feel.
And lastly, baseball is back in the news with steroid and performance enhancing drugs. A clinic in Miami called Bio-Genesis has supposedly been found to have supplied illegal drugs to a growing number of major league players. Among this group is Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera, Gio Gonzalez, and many others.
Baseball doesn’t need this black eye and these players surely have put their careers in danger. Rodriguez has put himself in a position to be ignored by the Hall of Fame even though he has over 600 home runs. Cabrera was suspended for 50 games last season and now his name shows up again.
I believe that if a player is found to have used illegal drugs he should be suspended for a entire season on the first occurrence. If he is found to use illegal drugs a second time he should be given a lifetime suspension. The ACLU won’t like my suggestion, but then, I don’t like the ACLU. Baseball has got to clean out these cheaters.
Quite a week in the sports world and I just scratched the surface. Wait till next week!
