The annual commemoration and wreath laying for Dr. Marin Luther King Jr. was held Monday on the square in Thomaston. Following the wreath laying, the crowd marched to the Upson-Lee Middle School gymnasium for a ceremony hosted by the Youth Alive of the Emancipation Committee, with Chrystal Cox McDowell being the keynote speaker. Taking part in the wreath laying were, left to right, Thomaston Mayor Pro Tem Doug Head, Annette Bass, Langston Johnson, the Rev. Coleman Dumas, the Rev. James McGill, Chrystal Cox McDowell, the Rev. Tyrus McDowell, Upson County Commissioner Lorenzo Wilder, and Sandra Trice. For more photos of the MLK Day celebration, see Friday’s edition of The Thomaston Times.
