BELMONT, NC - Charles Jackson “Jack” Buchanon, died January 13, 2013 at Carolinas Rehab in Mt. Holly. He was born in Newnan, Ga. on December 23, 1928, to the late Charlie Duried and Ruby Lyle Buchanon. He was raised in Hogansville and Thomaston, Ga.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Uneeda Garmany Buchanon, son Larry Jackson Buchanon; sister, Joyce Waller and brother, Don Allen Buchanan.

He is survived by son; Terry Allen Buchanon, Sr. and wife, Wanda of Mt. Holly; grandson Terry Allen Buchanon, Jr. and wife Miranda of Gastonia; granddaughter Adrienne Chyba and husband Mark of Noblesville, Ind.; brother Johnny Buchanon of Woodbury, Ga., great-granddaughters Ada Buchanon “Boy that gal’s something!” and Grace Hendrix “There’s my girl”; great grandson Ace Chyba; his “Sport Model” and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.

His greatest joys in life were his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids, old westerns, and SEC football, especially Alabama.

Jack served in the Army as a MP and Georgia National Guard as a tank commander and weapons instructor. He was awarded the WWII victory medal “The Ruptured Duck” which he wore proudly at every special occasion. He also represented the state of Georgia on the pistol team at the 1958 National Matches in Camp Perry, Ohio.

He moved his family to Belmont in 1964 and worked at Chavis Textile and TCI/Yarntex until his retirement in 2009 with 45 years of service.

The family will receive friends from 11 – 12:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont. A service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Bumgardner Chapel with Pastor John Mayberry officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
