On Saturday Nov. 4, over 3,000 athletes from across the country and many top international competitors aligned themselves on the beach at Panama City, Fla. for a 7 a.m. swim and the start of the Florida Ironman. Air Force Lt. Mike Moroz, a 2006 ULHS graduate, was among them. After the 2.4 mile swim, the competitors started the long 112- mile bike ride; the longest that Mike has ever competed. With that behind him, he began the 26.2-mile marathon run. After a dawn to dark day, Mike was greeted at the finish line by family and friends. While Mike has completed several regular triathlons, this was his first Ironman. Finishing in the top 25 percent of the field in just 11 hours, 48 minutes was quite an accomplishment. When Mike was asked which was harder, the Ironman or climbing two of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks in the same day, he only smiled. Currently, Mike is stationed at Eglin AFB as a Developmental Flight Test Engineer.
