The Flint River Academy Lady Cats Softball team won the GISA State Championship Saturday in a two-out-of-three game playoff against Randolph Southern School. In the first game both Flint River and Randolph Southern put runners aboard, but it was the Lady Cats that were able to take the advantage and win 6-5.

Randolph Southern took an early 1-0 lead, but by the fifth inning they were down by two. FRA did not relinquish their lead after scoring three runs in the fifth inning on a ground out by senior Amanda Pace and a two-run triple by senior Hannah Johnson. Even though junior pitcher Gennifer Armistead allowed five runs over seven innings, she still recorded the victory by striking out two and walking none.

The Lady Cats continued to pile up the runs in game two in a 17-2 landslide win over Randolph Southern. FRA scored six runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double by freshman Mary Stewart, an RBI single by Hannah Johnson, an RBI single by Amanda Pace, a groundout by junior Leah Stewart, and a two-run triple by junior Kooper Groce. Meghan Gregg posted a flawless day at the plate, going 3-3 against Randolph Southern School’s pitching. She singled in the fourth and sixth innings and doubled in the seventh inning. The Lady Cats easily handled Randolph Southern School’s pitching as six hitters combined for 12 hits, 11 RBIs, and 13 runs. Gennifer Armistead picked up another win for FRA. Armistead pitched seven innings, striking out three, and allowing only two earned runs, six hits, and no walks.

The State Championship was the successful end to a very strong season for the Lady Cats, who were also the undefeated Region Champs!
