School Teachers of the Year announcements were made recently at Upson-Lee South Elementary, Upson-Lee North Elementary, Upson-Lee Middle School, and Upson-Lee High School. The 2013-2014 Teachers of the Year are Melody Gaskins (ULSE); Debbie Martinez (ULNE); Nesha Campbell (ULMS); Gus Condon (ULHS). School-level Teachers of the Year are selected by popular vote from among their peers at each school. Because of the lengthy application process for System and Georgia Teacher of the Year, teachers are chosen the year before they actually serve.
The Thomaston-Upson System Teacher of the Year will be announced in November and will be selected from among this distinguished group of educators by a Teacher of the Year Evaluation Committee. System-level Teacher of the Year evaluation tools include a written application, classroom observations, and personal interviews.
The Thomaston-Upson System Teacher of the Year will go on to compete against Teachers of the Year from other school districts for the title of Georgia Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced in February.
