Graduation is an exciting time for most all seniors in high school. Tonight the realization of graduation becomes more prominent for six Lady Knights at 5 p.m. today, when they face the Lady Trojans of Lamar County for their final home softball game of the year.

Seniors on this year’s team include Brittany Fordham, Sara Poteat, Brook English, Sadie Clark, Lauren Ward, and Kristen Brunette.

The Lady Knights have had a successful season thus far under first year head coach Michael Hoffman, and look to continue their success into next week when the region playoffs begin.

However, according to Hoffman, their focus is on tonight’s performance against Lamar County. “We have seen this team twice this year already,” says Hoffman.. “They are a good ball club, but I have confidence in this team, and I know we can send give these seniors a victory in their final home game tonight.”

The Lady Knights first faced Lamar County in the season opening tournament in Griffin, beating the Lady Trojans 16-3.

The ladies from Barnseville sought revenge last week, when the Lady Knights traveled to Lamar County, but could not hold on to the lead, as the Lady Knights scored four runs in the final inning for the 5-3 victory.

Pitcher Kayla Hendricks has pitched 65 innings this year with an ERA of only 2.10. Other pitchers Kristen Burnette has an ERA of 3.90, and freshman pitcher Alexis Swafford, has an ERA of 3.00

Senior shortstop, and future University of Tenn-Chattanooga player Sara Poteat, leads the team with a astonishing .425 batting average, and is a perfect 18 for 18 in stolen bases.

Sophomore Jasmine Thompson, is batting .361 with 9 runs scored and 13 RBI. Brook English is batting at a .385 clip and sophomore Sam McDaniel is hitting .324 with 11 runs. Senior Mercedes Clark leads the team in homeruns with two.

The Lady Knights last home game will start today at 5 p.m., with pre-game festivities starting around 4:45 p.m.
