Funeral services for Mr. Jesse B. “Tommy” Thompson Jr., 87, of East Moores Crossing Road, formerly of Atlanta, were held Sunday, May 25, 2008, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Barber and the Rev. Philip Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Golden Living Center of Thomaston.

Mr. Thompson was a native of Upson County, Ga. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, and a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer. Mr. Thompson was the president of the first class of Southern Polytechnical Institute. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston, and the Sandy Springs Optimist Club. Mr. Thompson owned and operated the Thompson Construction Co., in Atlanta for 42 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joyce Burson Thompson of Thomaston; a son, Mr. J. Robert “Bob” (Louise Bedrossian) Thompson of Decatur; sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Riley and Mr.s Ruth Ellerbee, both of Thomaston; and brothers, Mr. Hubert P. Thompson and Mr. William R. Thompson, both of Thomaston.
