Today Krista Dudley and her mother, Sheri, will say goodbye to their family, friends and hometown. They are taking a journey to Nashville, Tenn. to pursue Krista's dream.
For at least six months the two Dudley women will explore what the future holds for Krista, who has a talent for singing.
"With dreams, you have only a few," said Krista as she finished packing this morning.
Krista said, "My mom came up with a quote about me a long time ago. She said 'She seems country, she seems pop, but when we get to Tennessee we are going to the top.'"
Krista was excited this morning, but she was a little sad to be leaving her hometown, and especially her father, Tommy, whose support is making this chance possible.
"I can't wait to meet other musicians and singers," said Krista.
Krista already has steady work in Nashville, appearing at what is described as a family karaoke club.
"I am both excited and nervous," said Krista's mom, Sheri. "This is what Krista wants and I want to be able to give her the opportunity to pursue her dream. We both feel like Tennessee is where she needs to be."
For the last two years, Krista has performed throughout Georgia, winning talent contests and entertaining crowds. Now, she's ready to take a step toward a career in music.
Sherry has signed a six-month lease on an apartment in Nashville. Krista, 16, a sophomore at Upson-Lee High school, will be homeschooled during the transition. Krista already plans to participate in an 'open mic' event at a Nashville club and there are discussions of filming a video and working on original songs.
"We will be very busy while we are there," said Sherry. "Opportunities have been falling into her lap. She will be working with one of the most sought-after voice coaches, Brent Manning."
Krista has signed with Aillson Productions for career guidance.
"We are going to give it a shot," said Sherry. "We will probably have a few doors slammed in our faces, but this is what she wants so we are going to go for it."
While in Tennessee, Krista and Sherry will keep their hometown informed through a website, www.kristadudley.com.
