Wes McCard/The Thomaston Times Upson Lee quarterback Kalen Puckett runs the option during a recent Knights workout.

Upson Lee will be facing LaGrange and Griffin in an 11 vs 11 competition next Thursday at Matthews Field, and they will compete against Jones County and Lamar County on July 23 at Matthews Field.

The 11 vs 11 competition will be non-contact, with players only wearing their helmets during plays. Full contact practice can begin August 1, but must follow practtce policy approved by the Georgia High School Association in April. The policy states that during the pre-season no team have full contact in practice for more than 45 minutes per day, and 135 minutes per week. As far as days where team may practice twice in a day, teams can only have one practice with full contact in that day.

Upson-Lee will begin practicing in shorts and helmets on July 27 and have its Iron Man competition that week. Full practice begins on August 3, and the Knights head out for a three-day camp on August 5. They travel to LaGrange on Aug. 21 to face Troup County in a scrimmage game, then have a week off before taking on Pike County at Matthews Field to open their 2015 football season.
