Rangers finish perfect season

The Dudley’s Body Shop Rangers took on the Tasty Shoppe Orioles in the Dixie Minors Championship Game last week, as the Rangers looked to finish with a perfect undefeated season.

Here’s a look at the action.

The Rangers accomplished what every team sets out to do every season, finish undefeated. Gabe Weatherford finished with five hits and two runs scored, and Shondarius Fambro added four hits and four runs as the Rangers defeated the Orioles by an 16-8 score.

The Rangers plated the first run in the top of the first inning, as Fambro had a single, then moved to second on a stolen base. Weatherford then drove in Fambro with a RBI single.

In the top of the second, Zach Nada and Ashton Lee each singled to start the inning off, followed by a a triple from Ty Gresham and a double from Fambro. The Rangers led 5-0.

In the bottom of the second, the Orioles chipped away at the Rangers’ lead with a run of their own. Garrett Cromer led off the inning with a walk, followed by a RBI triple from Jameze Ross, and the Orioles cut the lead to four, 5-1.

The Rangers tallied three runs in the top of the third inning, opening up an 8-1 lead. MiChael Foster drove in a run with a single, while Fambro and Weatherford each added RBI doubles.

In the bottom of the third inning the Orioles cut the Rangers’ lead in half, scoring three runs, with the big hit in the inning coming on a bases loaded, three-run double from Jameze Ross.

Leading 8-4, the Rangers added a single run in the top of the fourth inning, as Gresham came home to score on a RBI ground out from Gage Burbrink, as the Rangers took a 9-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth things got a little uncomfortable for the undefeated Rangers and their fans. Dawson Caldwell and Hayden Little each singled in the inning, while Nolan Blair added a three run double. John Marriage then drove home Blair with a RBI single, and al of a sudden the Orioles only trailed by a single run, with the Rangers holding a 9-8 lead.

From that point on, the Rangers opened the flood gates, and the wheels fell off for the Orioles and their hopes of pulling off the upset. The Rangers scored seven unanswered runs, with a huge blow from Burbrink, as he cleared the bases with a bases loaded double, sealing the Rangers’ 16-8 victory.

Gabe Weatherford led the way for the Rangers, going 5 for 5 and scoring two runs. Shondarius Fambro added four hits and four runs scored, while Ty Gresham added four hits and three RBI. Michael Foster and Zach Nada each tallied two hits,and Gage Burbrink, Koron Brazil, and Ashton Lee each chipped in with one hit in the victory.

The Orioles were paced by Jameze Ross, who finished the game with three hits and only needed a home run for the cycle. Nolan Blair and Dawson Blair each finished with two hits for the Orioles, while Brankeveon Scott, Stephen Bradshaw, Hayden Little ton, John Marriage, and Austen Colin finished with one hit in the loss.
