After a tough season last year which saw the Lady Knights finish with a 6-18 record, Upson Lee, under first year head coach Brandon Ingram, started off the 2015-2016 season with a home opening victory. Vicketrus Meadows led the Lady Knights with 13 points, as Upson Lee defeated the Lady Braves of Heard County by a 46-37 score .

Zahkia King started the season off with a three-pointer for Upson Lee, and the Lady Knights jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the game. However, over the last 4:11 of the first quarter, Heard County went on a 9-3 run, taking a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Knights started to fight back in the second quarter, coming out in a full court press. The defensive pressure by the Lady Knights forced Heard County into numerous turnovers. If it were not for Upson Lee’s own turnovers, then their lead could have been bigger, but at halftime Upson Lee led 22-19.

In the third quarter, the Heard County offense hit a cold streak, while Upson Lee continued to add to their lead. Upson Lee held Heard County to just one point in the third quarter, and took a 30-20 lead into the fourth quarter.

The last quarter of play was the best for each team. However, both teams struggled to run their offensive sets, with each team tallying multiple turnovers. Heard County climbed back to within three points with just over two minutes left, but a big three-pointer from Meadows put the Lady Knights up for good, as UL hung on for the 46-37 victory.

Meadows paced the Lady Knights with 13 points off the bench, while Alexus Howard added nine points. King and Kyjha Kendall each scored seven points, Lashea Traylor added four points, while Chelsey Bailey and Cierra Williams both chipped in with three points each in the victory.

The Lady Knights will now hit the road for a Thanksgiving Tournament at Chestatee High School. Their first opponent in the tournament will be Johnson-Gainesville.
