WALESKA – Jacob Gross has earned Reinhardt University football’s first weekly honor of the season from the Mid-South Conference as the sophomore has been named MSC Defensive Player of the Week in a vote of the conference’s Sports Information Directors. The announcement was made by the MSC office Monday afternoon.
“Jacob was a great find for us out of Upson-Lee High School,” said RU head coach Drew Cronic. “He is a bit of a ‘throwback’ linebacker who just really works hard. I’m sure this isn’t going to be the first time he gets an award like this.”
Gross, out of Molena, recorded 12 total tackles in Reinhardt’s 36-25 win over Georgetown. The sophomore added a pair of sacks for a loss of 16 yards and had a total of 2.5 tackles for a loss. His tackles for a loss were part of a team-record 16.0 tackles for a loss that the Eagles recorded in the win.
For the season, Gross is averaging nine tackles per game, while his two sacks are tied for eighth in the MSC.

Gross and the Eagles moved to 3-0 on the season and are poised to move up when the NAIA Top 25 poll for this week is released later Monday. RU’s next contest is set for this Saturday at Ken White Field against Pikeville.
