Council hears from residents about Tobin

A crowd of nearly 200 people filled the R.E. Lee Auditorium for the Thomaston City Council meeting last Thursday to voice their opinions to the mayor and council on Thomaston Police Officer Phillip Tobin. Of the roughly 25 people who spoke, the majority expressed their desire to see Tobin fired from the force for allegedly causing torment to citizens by using excessive force and brutality by a police officer.


Majority of weather sirens are installed

Thanks to a Response and Recovery grant program through FEMA and GEMA, Upson County was able to install six additional weather sirens throughout the county in hopes of giving better coverage to warn citizens of inclement weather. Dr. Lawrence L. Allen was honored last week with a proclamation designating July 11, 2014 as “Dr. L.L. Allen Day” in the City of Thomaston, upon his retirement from practicing medicine in Thomaston over the last 50 years. Mayor Hays Arnold made the declaration during a ceremony held at the government complex last Friday with many family and friends in attendance.

Yatesville to honor veterans with flags and crosses

The City of Yatesville is looking for the names of a “few good men and women” who served in the military and are from Yatesville.
