This summer, the Thomaston-Upson School System will offer free meals to area children ages 1-18 through the U.S.D.A “Seamless Summer Options for Children” program. The program runs June 3 - August 2, with all sites closed July 1- 5. Community members interested in hosting a Summer Meals site must attend one of the mandatory trainings at the Board of Education office on Wednesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. or 3:30 p.m.
Children may go on summer vacation, but hunger does not. The Summer Meals Program bridges the summer hunger gap and confirms that our community cares about the well-being of children all year long. T-U Schools looks forward to partnering with community leaders, churches, and summer enrichment coordinators to offer free summer meals to children.
For information on becoming an approved Summer Meals site or to volunteer as a server for the Summer Meals program, contact Tracy Watson, T-U Summer Meals Coordinator, at 706-647-7848 or Shelley Daniel, T-U Director of School Nutrition, at 706-647-2698.
