Ten-year-old Kya Haywood of Thomaston, one of the stars of the new movie, “The Campaign,” will be present at the opening of the movie at The Ritz Theatre Friday evening. Malcom Neal, owner of The Ritz, said he received so many calls from people wanting to see the movie after a feature about Kya’s role in the movie appeared in the August 10 edition of The Thomaston Times, that he called the film distributor and arranged to get a copy of it.

“The Campaign” stars Will Farrell, Zach Galifianakis, Dylan McDermottm, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd, and Jason Sudeikis, along with Kya. The premise of the movie is that local businessmen in North Carolina put up a candidate against long-term Congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell). That candidate is naive Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis) , director of the local tourism center. Kya plays Dylan Huggins, one of Marty Huggins’ two sons.

Kya will be in The Ritz Cafe from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Friday for a “meet and greet” and signing autographs. Those wanting to meet Kya will need to purchase tickets to the movie and enter through the theatre doors. At 7 p.m., Neal will interview Kya on the stage at The Ritz for about five minutes, then the movie will begin. “The Campaign” is rated “R” and will be shown at The Ritz Theatre through August 30.
