Law enforcement honored by Rotary Club

The Thomaston-Upson Rotary Club held their annual Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday, May 21 to thank the Thomaston Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Upson County Sheriff’s Office, Thomaston Fire Department and Upson EMS for all they do for the citizens of our community. During the luncheon, the club also gave out awards to a person from each department who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. This year the recipients were (pictured l-r) Firefighter of the Year, Firefighter Mitch Yates (Thomaston Fire Department); Trooper of the Year, Trooper First Class Mitch Day (Georgia State Patrol Post 26); Deputy of the Year, Deputy Justin Hammock (Upson County Sheriff’s Office); Medic of the Year, Casey Harris (Upson EMS); and Officer of the Year, Bruce “Scooter” Gilbert (Thomaston Police Department).
