Eight 6th grade students were honored as finalists in the “If I were mayor, I would,” essay contest. Patsy Purdue of the Thomaston City Council said, “They were all really, really cute essays. Unfortunately we can’t turn the fountains into chocolate milk.” All of the finalists were awarded certificates and pins; the runner-up, Chelsea Graham, received a $50 gift certificate, and the winner, Morgan Brooks, received a $100 gift certificate. The “If I were mayor, I would’ is part of Georgia Cities Week and Make Thomaston Shine activities.
