The Thomaston-Upson County Distinguished Young Women Program (formerly known as the Georgia’s Junior Miss) was held this past Saturday at the R.E. Lee Auditorium for the class of 2014. The contestants were judged on 5 different categories, scholastics, interview, fitness, talent, and self-expression. The Thomaston Distinguished Young Woman was awarded to Jasandeep Kaur; the Upson County Distinguished Young Woman was awarded to Jade Shumate. Both were awarded $1200 scholarships and will compete at the state level. Second runner-up was Claire Shaver, she was awarded a $500 scholarship. First runner-up was Necole Evans, awarded a $750 scholarship. Other winners were Caroline Williams, Spirit of Junior Miss; Necole Williams and Jade Shumate, self-expression; Necole Williams and Claire Shavers, fitness; Jade Shumate and Claire Shaver, talent; Jade Shumate and Jasandeep Kaur, interview; Brooke Barker and Jade Shumate, scholastics.
