Alfred Collins, age 52, of Thomaston, was arrested Tuesday following a drive-by shooting that occurred that morning on Avenue G.

“We were dispatched to the area of Avenue G in reference to shots being fired,” said Investigator Monica Snipes of the Thomaston Police Department. “We had several calls come into the 911 center indicating shots had been fired.”

Snipes said callers reported the shots were by a man driving a silver vehicle, later allegedly identified as a Mercedes Benz belonging to Collins.

“He fired three shots at a subject that was at a residence on Avenue G. No one was injured, but he was arrested at the scene by Sgt. Jeff Little,” Snipes said. “Based on my investigation, he was charged accordingly.”

Collins is facing charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held in the Upson County Jail. Bond has been set at $35,000.

“At this time, the motive isn’t clear, because I keep getting conflicting statements between witnesses and the suspect,” Snipes said. “But there had been an exchange of words between two men, to include Mr. Collins.”

She said a revolver believed to have been used in the incident was recovered.
