A lightning strike knocked WTGA, Fun 101.1 FM off the air for several hours Friday afternoon. A brief but thunderous storm passed through Thomaston about 3 p.m. with a heavy rain show and at least one lighting strike that hit WTGA’s antenna on top of its building at 208 S. Center Street. A worker inside said the radio was knocked off the air and they could smell burning wires, so they called the Thomaston Fire Department. Two engines responded, with firefighters checking inside the building and on top of the building without finding any lingering fire. No one was injured in the strike. In the photo, a Thomaston firefighter climbs a ladder to check the roof while two others wait below.
