It is a sad thing when the headstones of the departed are stolen. While looking for family cemeteries to document our history for the Thomaston-Upson Archives, I found that the headstone for World War I soldier Watson Harris was missing. He is buried in the Harris Cemetery across from the golf course on 341 north Upson County, close to the county line. For about two years, I have been researching information on Watson. I found out that he was a World War I veteran and I wanted to give him his due honor by having a headstone placed. I recently found out that indeed at one time he had one; that is now missing. Most of his family members have passed away. It is a sad thing when a man fights in a war and his marker is stolen. It would be appreciated if the person who stole his marker would show due respect for one of our soldiers, and return the headstone to the cemetery.
