Scoreless first quarter dooms UL in 54-24 loss

The Lady Knights took on a perennial state playoff team in the Lady Wolfpack from Woodland High School. The Lady Wolfpack forced the Lady Knights into numerous turnovers in the first quarter. Upson-Lee did get to the free throw line for 10 free throw attempts in the period, but unfortunately for the Lady Knights, they missed all 10 attempts. At the end of the first quarter, Woodland led Upson-Lee 15-0.

In the second quarter of play, the Lady Knights finally got on the board with a jump shot from junior Keondra Ausbrooks. The 5’10 junior led the Lady Knights with 11 points. The Lady Knights also made their first free throw in the second quarter, as Demeshia Russell made a free throw on the Lady Knights twelfth attempt in the game. At the half, the Lady Knights trailed 23-9.

In the third quarter, the Lady Knights only scored two points, while the Lady Wolfpack had their best quarter of the game, scoring 21 points. The Lady Wolfpack led 44-11 at the end of the third quarter, as they cruised to a 54-24 victory.

Ausbrooks led the Lady Knights with 11 points and seven rebounds. Kiashona Carter added six points, Kenya Harris and Kia Willis each scored two points, while both Demeshia Russell and Brittney Acey each chipped in with one point in the loss.

The Lady Knights (1-2) will travel tonight to take on the Lady Wildcats (1-4) from Locust Grove High School. Tip off for tonight contest is slated for 6 p.m.
