Virginia Penny of the Upson County Water Department was named the 2012 Upson County Employee of the Year at the County Christmas Luncheon last week. Virginia has been a member of Team Upson for 17 years. As Senior Clerk in the water department, Virginia’s responsibilities include accounts receivable and payable, compiling information from meters, printing and mailing water bills, customer service and many other duties. Virginia takes each responsibility serious and goes above and beyond to make sure deadlines are met. Virginia’s influence is seen throughout county government. She attends all employee meetings, helps with Christmas luncheon and summer picnic, fills in when other employees are out and has even helped out in other departments when short-handed. Recently an employee had a family emergency and needed time off. Virginia canceled her vacation and filled in for the absent employee. In the photo, Virginia received her Employee of the Year certificate from BOC Chairman Maurice Raines.
