T-U Schools expresses thanks for Back to School Bash
The first annual Back to School Bash was held Thursday, August 6, at the Upson County Civic Center. The event, which was for K-5 students and their families, featured free haircuts for students, education services, food, activities, and free school supplies. The overwhelming number of students and families in attendance validated the need for this type of event in our community, and the enormous amount of volunteer and donor support was the perfect example of what we can accomplish when our community unites over a shared purpose. That purpose was to promote the importance of education in Thomaston and Upson County, to empower students, and to give them the tools and the confidence they need to be successful in school.
The Thomaston-Upson School System would first and foremost like to thank Gary Moore, who conceived this idea, and the individual members of the Back to School Bash steering committee, who assisted in making the idea a reality. We also want to offer our deepest gratitude to everyone who donated to this endeavor and who volunteered at the event: Upson Professionals Inc.; Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce; Thomaston-Upson County Recreation Department; Upson County Sheriff’s Department; City of Thomaston Police Department; City of Thomaston Fire Department; Upson Regional Medical Center; The Wellness Center; Upson County Family Connections; RUSH Ministries; NorthRidge Church; Sertoma Club; Rotary Club; Gary & Valerie Moore; Driver & Adams, CPAs; Trennis Dumas State Farm Insurance; United Bank; Colony Bank; AmeriGroup; WellCare; 4H – Upson Co.
