Citizens, Thomaston/Upson County Letter Carriers
Thank you so much for your generous donations of food during the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive. Also, we would like to thank the letter carriers for their support. Without your hard work placing bags in mail boxes and picking them up, it would not have been possible to collect the 14,800 pounds of food. This is more than double the amount collected last year.
For 40-plus years, the House of Care has been meeting the needs of those who are in need of help. It is not just a giveaway program but a missions ministry. Your donations this year will enable us to meet these needs.
The need in our community is still great. In 2014 we had 1,173 applications. These applications represent 2,340 adults and 693 children. On average $3,400 is spent each month along with food items donated to take care of these needs. At the present time I am spending more than is being donated each month. Thanks to your generous donations our shelves are full to start the summer months.
There is a saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” In the same token, it takes a community working together to meet the needs of those who are in need.
Whether you gave one can or several, thank you for your donations and help collecting these items. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Elizabeth DeLoach.
