The Upson-Lee Lady Knights are in a very familiar position at the moment; that position the State Playoffs. Upson-Lee finished with a 12-5 record and a 7-3 record in Region 4 to finish as the No. 4 seed from the region. Region 4 is matched up with Region 2 this year in the first round of the playoffs. The Lady Knights will have the daunting task of knocking off the No. 3 state ranked Warhawks from Veterans High School (14-1, 7-0) in Kathleen.
The Lady Warhawks have only lost one game so far this season, coming in a 2-1 loss to FPD (First Presbyterian Day School) back in early March. FPD is currently ranked No. 1 in the state in class A and has a 16-0 record. In 15 games the Lady Warhawks have allowed only four goals, while scoring 73 goals on the season. Veterans did not allow a single goal in Region 2 play this year.
With that said, the Lady Knights have played perhaps a little better competition this season. Both Spalding and Locust Grove from UL’s Region 4 are ranked in the top 10 in the State, while the No. 2 seed from Region 2, Rutland High School, has the same record as Upson-Lee, the No. 4 seed from Region 2.
The Lady Knights are coming off two tough losses to end their regular season, but those two teams were Spalding and Locust Grove. Spalding (15-1, 10-0) the No. 1 seed from Region 4 will host Mary Persons (9-7, 4-3) the No. 4 seed from Region 2. Locust Grove (13-4, 9-1) the No. 2 seed from Region 4 will host Howard (9-5, 5-2) the No. 3 seed from Region 2, while Woodland (12-4, 7-3) the No. 3 seed from Region 4 will travel to Macon to take on Rutland (12-5, 6-1) the No. 2 seed from Region 2.
The Lady Knights and Lady Warhawks are slated to start at 7 p.m. tomorrow night in Kathleen.Veterans High School is located at 340 Piney Grove Road in Kathleen, Georgia.
