After holding on to defeat Byron by a 12-11 score, the Upson-Lee Middle School Knights baseball team continued to score runs with ease, but against Crawford County last week, the Knights only gave up one run in their 13-1 victory.

Barron Gulley pitched four innings of three-hit baseball, allowing only one run while striking out three batters. Blake Richardson pitched the final scoreless inning of the game.

After retiring the side in order in the top of the first inning, the ULMS Knights came to bat in the bottom of the first inning and put three runs on the board. Tripp Greer and Trevor Crews each walked to start the game, followed by a two-run triple from Tanner Crews, which scored both Greer and Crews. Tanner Crews scored the final run of the inning, coming home from third base on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Knights added to their lead. Once again it was Greer getting on base, this time with a solid single and then stealing second base. The Eagles committed eight errors in the ball game, which quickly allowed the Knights to jump all over Crawford County. The Crews brothers both reached on errors, with Greer and Trevor Crews scoring on the error in which Tanner Crews reached base.

Joshua Fordham then drew a walk, and Barron Gulley hit a single to load the bases. With the bases loaded and a 5-0 lead, Blake Richardson ripped a double to left field, scoring Tanner Crews and Fordham and giving ULMS a 7-0 lead. Lawson Rucker then had a RBI single, which scored Gulley from third base and Richardson came home on the throw into the infield. After just two innings of play, the Knights held a 9-0 lead.

After another scoreless inning pitched by Gulley, the Knights added two more runs to the board in the bottom of the third inning. Tanner Crews singled to left field, followed by Joshua Fordham grounding out into a fielder’s choice. With Fordham at first base, Gulley followed with a single to put runners at first and second base. Both Gulley and Fordham advanced to second and third bases on wild pitches with Joseph Nelson at the plate. Nelson grounded out to the shortstop, but drove home Gulley and earned an RBI. Noah Turner followed with a solid single to left field and after three innings of play, the Knights led 11-0.

Crawford County scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, with one hit and taking advantage of two batters being hit by pitches.

However, in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Knights would score two more runs. Tripp Greer started the inning off with a single followed by Trevor Crews reaching base on the Eagles’ seventh error of the game. However, Crews would be picked off at first base. Tanner Crews stepped to the plate to belt his second triple of the game, scoring Greer and giving the Knights a 12-1 lead. Blake Richardson drove home Crews after reaching on the Eagles’ eighth error of the game to seal the victory.

Tanner Crews led the Knights with three hits, including two triples, three RBI, and three runs scored. Tripp Greer and Barron Gulley each added two hits and each scored three runs, while Blake Richardson added a hit, two RBI, and scored a run. Lawson Rucker finished the game with a hit and two RBI, and Noah Turner added a hit and RBI. Joseph Nelson chipped in with a RBI in the Knights victory.
