Upson-Lee defensive lineman Chris Duncan signed a football scholarship to play at Reinhardt University in Welaska, Georgia. The Eagles are members of the AAC (Appalachian Athletic Conference) in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). Reinhardt will open their season up on Aug. 28 in a game versus the Mercer Bears in Macon. Last season the Eagles were 6-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Upson-Lee linebacker Jacob Gross will join Duncan at Reinhardt University, earning a football scholarship. Gross was selected First Team All-Region by the Region 4 coaches after the 2013 season. Reinhardt and Point University are the only two football schools from Georgia which participate in the AAC, while most other schools are in Tennessee, Kentucky, and the Carolinas.
Upson-Lee Lady Knights’ Haylie Zolman has signed a soccer scholarship to play at Darton State College in Albany, Georgia. Zolman has been a mainstay as the Lady Knights keeper during her high school career at Upson-Lee. Darton is currently ranked as the No. 4 team in the country in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) after posting a 20-1-2 record, and compiled a record of 14-1 in the GCAA (Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association).
Upson-Lee senior Akeila Raines will get to compete against Zolman next season after signing a soccer scholarship to play at South Georgia State College in Douglas, Georgia. The Lady Hawks finished with a record of 7-10-3 and 5-6-3 in the GCAA. Other school members in the GCAA include Darton State College, Gordon State College, Middle Georgia College, Georgia Military College, ABAC (Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College), and Andrew College.
Upson-Lee’s Dalton Strom signed a cross country scholarship to run at Gordon State College next season. The Highlanders are members of the GCAA (Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association). Strom placed third at the Region 4 Championships this season to help lead the Knights to their first ever Region 4 Cross Country Championship.
Senior Brian Reveire will join Strom at Gordon State College in Barnesville after signing a cross country scholarship. Reveire placed fifth overall in the Region 4 Cross Country meet and was a key member of the Knights Championship team.
