Seven Knights earn first place medals in tournament

The Upson-Lee Knights wrestling team is having one of it’s best seasons in school history. On Saturday, the Knights traveled to Warner Robins for a wrestling tournament along with North Atlanta, Howard, Houston County, Americus-Sumter, Veterans, Northside-Warner Robins, and Warner Robins in the Demon Invitational. hosted by Warner Robins High School.


The Knights took home first place in the tournament and finished with seven wrestlers winning a first place medal for their weight classes. UL also had one wrestler place second, and four wrestlers place third. The Knights had no one place in the 182-pound weight class, and had no one entered in the 106-pound weight class.


“I am really happy with the way the guys performed down there,” said Knights head coach Craig Logan. “We really got into a nice rhythm and the guys performed well. Now we have to turn our focus to the Region 4 Traditional Tournament and bring home a fifth trophy of the year.”


Warner Robins placed second in the tournament, and Howard finished third. The Knights will be in the same region as Howard next year, along with Veterans, which also attended the tournament. The Knights easily defeated both of those schools.


Here is a look at how the Knights placed individually:


113 pounds: Josh Draime (No. 4 seed) placed third by pinning his opponent from Howard High School.


120 pounds: Kolby Schadenberg (No. 2 seed) crowned tournament Champion after defeating the No. 1 seeded wrestler from Howard High School by pin.


126 pounds: Max Duncan (No. 1 seed) crowned tournament Champion after defeating his opponent from Warner Robins High School by pin.


132 pounds: Joey Spurling (No. 3 seed) crowned tournament Champion by defeating the No. 1 seed from Howard High School by pin.


138 pounds: Deven Green (No. 1 seed) crowned tournament Champion by defeating the No. 2 seed from Warner Robins by pin.


145 pounds: Michael Kirschmann (No. 2 seed) crowned tournament Champion by defeating the No. 1 seed from Warner Robins in a 7-5 overtime decision.


152 pounds: Keyontae Robinson (No. 3 seed) placed third overall after defeating his opponent from Northside- Warner Robins in the consolation finals.


160 pounds; Matthew Delli-Gatti (No. 4 seed) crowned tournament Champion by defeating his opponent from Houston County High School by pin.


170 pounds: Bo Cummings (No. 2 seed) placed second overall in the tournament after falling to the No. 1 seed from Warner Robins. The Warner Robins wrestler placed third overall in the state last season.


195 pounds: Jacob Gross (No. 3 seed) placed third in the tournament by defeating his opponent from Houston County High School by pin.


220 pounds: Nathaniel Bloodworth (No. 1 seed) placed third overall by defeating his opponent from Veterans High School by pin.


285 pounds: Jacob Jackson (No. 3 seed) crowned tournament Champion after defeating his opponent from Veterans by pin.
