Hello old friend! I hope that you’ve had a good year preparing to make everyone happy on Christmas morning. Most kids get their Christmas wishes fulfilled on December 25, but I have to admit that the wish list that I will present to you will take most of the year to complete. Although I must confess that some of my wishes may present quite a challenge, I am completely confident that you will deliver on every desire. Well here’s my Christmas wish list. I look forward to seeing every one come true.

As you probably know, our Upson-Lee Knights are searching for a new head football coach. Please bring us a man who can not only produce lots of wins but also build the program for future success.

And please find a good place for Coach Tommy Watson and give him much success as he moves forward in his coaching career.

And how about another division title for the Atlanta Braves and tack on a trip to the World Series. This sure would make Carl Brown happy!

I personally ask that the plans for the Braves’ new stadium in Cobb County run into some unexpected problems that will force them to stay where they are.

Coach Darrell Lockhart needs a successful season with his “Running Knights” basketball team. How about a region title and a #1 seed as they go to the state tournament.

And Coach Bart Phillips could use a solid campaign with his Lady Knights. They’re improving and need some good things to happen for them

Coach Wayne Puckett and his baseball Knights are ready for a breakout season and you could really help, if you can find the time.

The Atlanta Falcons need so much help that I don’t know where to start. Just help them to make some wise choices in the NFL draft.

My Auburn Tigers need a victory in the National Championship game. The old adage says that things happen in threes. After the Georgia and Alabama miracles, the Florida State game would be a perfect number three!

I’m expecting Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine to join Bobby Cox in the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame class. Would you please see that this happens?

And you know, I’m tired of Alex Rodriguez and his denials of wrongdoing. I think that he’s as guilty as sin and I’d appreciate your keeping him off the diamond in the future.

My grandson Jake Spraggins will be trying out for the Pike County High School junior varsity baseball team soon and I think that he’s good enough to make the squad. We can always use a little help though. How about it?

And I’d really like to find a 1952 Mickey Mantle rookie card in a box of old baseball cards sometime this year. Why not?

Some of us are still waiting for our local leaders to recognize Jim Cavan and Tommy Perdue by attaching their names to our high school football venue, Matthews Field. They very much deserve this honor and your help in getting it done would be wonderful. This will be a tough one but I have confidence.

We’ve got a great 2014 class entering the Thomaston-Upson Sports Hall of Fame in February. An overflow crowd at the banquet would be a great tribute to these great athletes and coaches. Will you be sure to get the supporters there?

And on a personal note, I’d appreciate another great trip to Braves’ spring training in March. This will be about the 20th year for me and it’s always a great start to the baseball season. Please help me to get my press credentials again in order to enjoy the on-field experience.

Well, I know that you’re a busy guy, so I won’t ask for anything else. Just help me out where you can with the above requests. Oh, before I go, please bring a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to my loyal readers. Please grant their wishes and dreams and give them the desire to keep reading my weekly ramblings. I really appreciate them!

Have a great Christmas and always remember the King whose birthday we celebrate!

Ole Jim
