In Upson Superior Court last Wednesday, Everett Dwayne Smith, 32 , of Thomaston, was found guilty of child molestation and aggravated sexual battery and sentenced to life in prison by Judge Tommy Hankinson. Assistant District Attorney Michael Rogers stated Smith was indicted in August 2012 for the October 2011 crime, which involved a then four-year-old female victim. He will be eligible for parole in 30 years.
Rogers stated the victim, now seven years old, testified during the trial last week and did an amazing job. He noted the jury deliberated for just over two hours Wednesday before reaching the guilty verdict and he was pleased with the outcome.
“He’s right where child molesters need to be,” said Rogers.
