Snowpocalypse 2014 -Thomaston style
Snow creates both headaches and happiness in Thomaston
Larry Stanford|The Thomaston Times
While the snow, freezing rain and sleet that fell across Georgia Tuesday afternoon is already becoming known as Snowpocalypse 2014 because of the massive pileups it caused in Atlanta, Thomaston and Upson County took it all in stride. Law enforcement, emergency personnel, and public works employees were kept busy answering calls and salting down streets Wednesday to make them passable. In the upper photo, a Thomaston Public Works employee spreads a mixture of sand and salt down on the intersection of South Center Street and Gordon Street. But school children in Upson County stayed safe and warm at home Tuesday through Thursday, unlike their counterparts in Atlanta, who were forced to spend Tuesday night in schools and/or stuck buses because of the gridlock on the streets. Wednesday it gave them a chance to get outside and play in the snow. In the lower photo, Edward Roberts of The Rock pulls his grandson, Zachary Roberts, 6, around on a homemade sleigh.
