Christmas season doesn’t slow down drug busts

On December 11, 2013, Thomaston Police Sergeant Georgia Little was dispatched by 911 to the office of Triune Village in reference to talk to an officer call. Upon arrival Sgt. Little spoke with management at Triune Village, who stated they were conducting yearly inspections on apartments. Management stated they were inspecting apartment 518 and observed what appeared to be marijuana lying on a table and dresser inside apartment 518. Sgt. Little notified agents from the Upson Narcotics Task Force and advised them of the incident.


Agents from the Upson Narcotics Task Force spoke with management from Triune Village and a search warrant was obtained from the Upson County Magistrate Office for apartment 518 Triune Avenue. Upon the execution of the search warrant, agents located and seized marijuana and a Phoenix Arms 25 Auto hand gun and ammo. Tameka Howell of 518 Triune Avenue was charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce and transported to the Upson County Sheriff’s Office. Agencies involved with Upson Narcotics Task Force: Thomaston Police Department, Upson County Sheriff’s Office, Barnesville Police Department and Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office.


On December 19, 2013 a search warrant was executed at 517 Denton Street in Thomaston. Approximately 11.5 ounces of Marijuana was found at the residence along with a set of digital scales and a handgun. The Marijuana is valued at $1,725.


Matthew Franklin Smith, 23, of 517 Denton Street and Scottavius Emil Giddens, 23, of 510 Acorn Street were arrested an charged with Possession of Marijuana with the intent to Distribute. Both remain in the Upson County Jail on a $120,000 bond.
