Representatives of the Thomaston-Upson School System participated in a tour of local industries on July 10, to gain a better understanding of what types of jobs are available in our community and what skills are needed to be successful in those positions. This is the third consecutive year the school system has partnered with the Chamber of Commerce for the industry tours, something Thomaston-Upson School Superintendent Dr. Maggie Shook is very happy about.
“I am very proud that we are once again able to offer the Thomaston-Upson Schools’ Tour of Industry in partnership with the Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce again this year. The Tour of industry is designed to give our middle and high school teachers first- hand experience and knowledge of the various types of jobs available within industries right here in Upson County,” said Shook. “The more information that our teachers know, the more information they can share with our students. One of our goals is to make our students aware of the wonderful job opportunities that are located here at home. Also, middle and high school students have the opportunity to learn the skills they need through our CTAE (Career, Technical, Agricultural Education) programs and our dual enrollment programs. We want to make sure that our students know that there are great job opportunities right here at home.”
This year the tour consisted of Southern Crescent Technical College, Upson Regional Medical Center, DART/Solo Cup, Quad Graphics and Intefor.
