When warm temperatures return next summer, students at Upson-Lee North Elementary will remain cool as the updating of the building’s air conditioning system has been completed. That news was part of the update given to the Thomaston-Upson Board of Education last Tuesday night by Mike Majors, the Director of Maintenance and Operations.

Majors said the work at Upson-Lee North Elementary, which was being done under the SPLOST III program, closed out last week ahead of schedule.

Majors went on to inform the board that the system will be starting on the Upson-Lee High School air conditioning project soon.

“We’ll have to phase that in,” he said. “We won’t be able to complete that project all in one summer. We’ve already discussed the architect being Southern A & E. We plan to get moving on that project in the next couple of weeks. That is really, I think, one of the last major projects we have on this existing SPLOST, as far as facilities and maintenance go.”

Majors added that he will be meeting soon with the architect and engineers at the Fine Arts Building.

“We’ve got a nine-page punch list down to three pages, so I’m interested to see where they are at on that.”

There is $433,000 left in the funding for the Fine Arts Building, and the BOE has maintained that everything must be completed and approved before the final payment is made.
