Lillie Mary Gentry Willis of Molena celebrated her 100th birthday on September 4, 2013. Lillie was born on Sept. 4, 1913 in Morrow, Ga. She met her future husband, Charles Eugene “Snook” Willis, while both were working in Atlanta. They were married in 1936 and traveled around the south as he installed telephone lines for AT&T. When World War II broke out, Snook enlisted, and it was during the war that their only child, Jerry Willis, was born. After the war, they moved to Molena, and Snook went to work for Federal Paper Board until his retirement. He died 30 years ago. Lillie has three grandchildren, Gene Willis, who lives in Illinois, Rebecca Willis Burkett, who lives in Thomaston, and Tony Willis, who lives in Fayetteville. She also has six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. A birthday celebration for Lillie will be held this Sunday after church at New Hope Baptist Church.
