WASHINGTON, D.C. – On August 15, the day after receiving the Dear Colleague alerting him of the legislation, Congressman Lynn Westmoreland signed on to be a co-sponsor of H.Res. 333, also known as the Stockman Resolution. This resolution states his intention to not support any debt ceiling increase or continuing resolution that does not fully defund ObamaCare. In addition, Congressman Westmoreland is an original cosponsor of H.R. 2682, the Defund ObamaCare Act. This legislation deauthorizes any appropriations necessary to carry out ObamaCare. Below is Congressman Westmoreland’s statement on his support of defunding ObamaCare.

“During the August district work period, I have visited 12 of the 13 counties in Georgia’s Third Congressional district – and will have visited all thirteen by the end of the week. Everywhere I go, people are concerned about the impact ObamaCare will have on their job and on their family. That’s why we must repeal ObamaCare and I will not vote for any continuing resolution or debt ceiling increase that does not defund this law. The president needs to admit this law is a failure and needs to work with Republicans to repeal ObamaCare, and replace it with common sense reforms that will keep healthcare affordable and accessible to all Americans.

“I also want to make it clear that I am tired of the use of continuing resolutions. It’s a bad way to govern. One of the most important duties Congress has is to responsibly appropriate money to the federal government. And by passing continuing resolutions rather than following regular order, we are kicking the can down the road without really trying to fix what is wrong.

“Surprisingly, there have been some outside reports that I do not support defunding ObamaCare. That could not be further from the truth.

“Let me be clear: I oppose ObamaCare. I have always opposed ObamaCare. In fact, I have voted almost 40 times to repeal, defund, or delay ObamaCare. That’s why I signed on as a cosponsor of these pieces of legislation earlier – to reiterate my commitment to completely defund ObamaCare. And I encourage anyone who has questions about my stance on ObamaCare to contact either of my offices and they will happily tell you, once again, that I support defunding ObamaCare,” stated Westmoreland.
