A partial train derailment occurred in Hogansville today shortly after midnight when a vehicle was was struck at a crossing.

The vehicle, described as a flatbed 18 wheeler, became stuck on the railroad tracks at a crossing north of Hogansville near the intersection of American Legion Road and Hogansville Road. The vehicle apparently lost its traction on a gravel road, according to Troup County Sheriff’s deputies.

No injuries are reported, and the driver was able to exit the vehicle before the collision.

The 18 wheeler was carrying a load of demolished cars.

There are no crossing gates at the intersection of the rail line and the road.

After the collision, the truck’s trailer became lodged beneath the train and was dragged roughly three quarters of a mile down the tracks. The train, operated by CSX Corporation, partially derailed and officials are on scene working to place it back on the tracks.

The train was lead by four locomotives and was hauling 63 cars of mixed freight. No hazardous material was being transported. The train departed LaGrange and was headed for Wadley, Georgia, and had a two-person crew.

Motorists may experience road closures and detours in that area as police and railroad officials work the scene.
