Thomaston was recently blessed with a ‘New Wind,’ which is the name of a group and not the weather. New Wind is a group of young musically-inclined teens from Birmingham, Alabama, associated with the Shades-Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, with a mission of doing community work projects in Thomaston. They kicked off their week with a concert at Greatest Generation Memorial Park with free music, food, fun and prayers.
The group brought song and dance with a message of love, deliverance, and praise to the community. They served the community by cutting a walking trail in the Silvertown area, laying mulch in the park and even paving a parking lot at the Seven Day Adventist Church. The group picked up trash along the highways and byways to beautify the city, and planted flowers in the city water fountain triangle. New Wind re-painted and washed walls of Silvertown Church and others in the community. They also helped serve at the Silvertown Soup Kitchen and sang for the customers.
The group New Wind was brought to Thomaston through Pastor Paul Casper of Silvertown Baptist Church. Shades-Mountains, with Pastor Dr. Danny Wood, is the home church of Pastor Casper’s wife, Jessica. Thanks to New Wind, the city looks awesome, and as one of the teens said, “I want to serve as this is my will as a child of God!”
