December 29, 2015, will mark the final edition of The Thomaston Times. The newspaper was established in 1869.

“It is with great regret that we announce the closing of The Thomaston Times,” said Rick Thomason, publisher of The Thomaston Times and the LaGrange Daily News. “Shuttering the newspaper was not an easy decision. But the media is a business and, like all businesses, it must have the support of the communities it serves. The Thomaston Times no longer has that support.

“I want to thank the employees at The Thomaston Times – both present and past – for their hard work and dedication. I also want to thank those in the community who have supported the newspaper with their advertising and subscriptions.

“Newspapers remain the most trusted source of information and advertising in any community,” Thomason added. “It is a sad day when a community loses one of those voices. But I do encourage the good people of Thomaston to continue to support those news products that survive. Support them and hold them to a high standard so they may continue to serve this community for decades to come.”

Subscribers will be receiving a check in the first quarter of 2016 for the balance of their subscriptions.
