Former Griffin Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney (ADA), Cindy Manning, has announced her campaign for District Attorney (DA). The current DA, Scott Ballard, declared his intent to run for Superior Court Judge which leaves his seat open at the end of this term. Manning worked for Ballard for several years during his first term in office and prosecuted felonies throughout the circuit. Manning also argued cases on behalf of the Griffin Judicial Circuit before the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court while working for Ballard and she is admitted to practice before the U. S. Supreme Court.
Currently, Manning owns Manning Legal Group, LLC, a local law firm that she founded in 2012. When asked about her decision to run for District Attorney, Manning said “I believe I will bring a proven track record of leadership and community involvement and have the business skills to ensure timely and successful prosecution in this Circuit.”
Manning obtained her Bachelor’s degree cum laude from Florida State University and her law degree magna cum laude from Boston University, graduating in the top 5% of the class. Boston University is consistently ranked as a top tier law school by U. S. News and World Report.
Since graduation, Manning has focused her practice on trial work. More than half of her career has been spent focused on criminal law both as a prosecutor in Ballard’s office and now as a defense attorney, practicing throughout the south metro-Atlanta region. Manning has recently been identified as a 2016 Super Lawyer Rising Star by Law and Politics Magazine, having received this award twice previously.
When asked about her background, Manning stated “My diverse experience allows me to not only have knowledge of how our DA’s office works presently, but also how other DA’s offices in the surrounding counties prosecute cases. I will use my business experience and management skills to ensure swift justice for the victims of crime in our circuit through implementation of focused policies, efficiencies, and procedures.”
Manning has held leadership roles and volunteered in numerous industry and community organizations. She served as President of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers from 2014 to 2015 – a 700+ member state-wide legal organization; she participated and graduated from Leadership Fayette in 2014; she has been elected as board member of several sections of the Atlanta Bar Association; and Chair of the Board of Directors of Advo-Kids CASA, Inc. – a non-profit that advocates for children in DFACS custody throughout Spalding, Pike, Upson and Fayette counties. Manning also serves as nursery director for her church and volunteers as a local Mock Trial Coach. In 2014, Manning’s various service activities resulted in her being awarded the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service, presented by the State Bar of Georgia and the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism.
Cindy and her husband Erik, a veteran of the United States Navy, live in Peachtree City with their three children, Cameron, Emily, and Cindy’s step-son Daniel.
Manning is running as a Republican for District Attorney of the Griffin Judicial Circuit which includes Spalding, Pike, Upson, and Fayette counties. Currently Manning is the only candidate to file a Declaration of Intent with the Secretary of State for this seat. This seat will be on the May 24, 2016 primary election ballot.
