One hundred sixty-one cadets took part in Upson Lee High School’s NJROTC Inspection and Pass in Review Parade on September 30, 2015. Due to inclement weather, the annual event took place in the ULHS gym.
Commander Axel Spens, Commander Officer of the Navy Recruiting District in Atlanta, was the Inspecting Officer, and said he was impressed by what he saw.
“I’m humbled to be able to come out here and see the time and effort that students here are putting together. You did a great job today,” CDR. Spens said. “ I especially like to look for how the new class is coming through, the freshmen, and the freshmen are learning quickly. I’m actually a little bit shocked, I think they started their orientation three months ago and they are out here today in uniform, answering questions about what motivates them, and there is really a lot of promise here.
“It really does a lot for the community here when you’ve got students – young adults – that are getting ready to enter the community as responsible adults. I think this is a great hope for the future here in Upson County. This is not really about the military, it is about citizenship, it is about teamwork, and it is about people who care about making a difference. You did that today. You all together really made this work. There is a great future here for Upson County.”
Following the inspection, Bravo 2 won the Honor Platoon banner for the best overall uniform appearance.
Eighteen cadets were presented with Exemplary Personal Appearance Awards. They are Ryan Harrell, Dejah White, Haley Martin, Blake Corley, Nathan Thompson, Andrea Fortner, Broderick Carmona, Ta’Niyah Atkins, Shante Harris, Cody Thompson, Tylencia Watson, David Self, Kanon Hicks, Brianna Bennett, Charlie Huff, James Muse, Joshua McDonald, and Jasmine Goodin.
The Pass in Review Parade was held inside the gym, but the Drill Team performance was held outside following the Pass in Review.
