“Under the direction of the Board of Commissioners of Upson County, I have been directed to contact Miss Martha Anne McCarty. She has agreed to continue to be the EMA Director here at Upson County. There will be no status change. Everything will remain the same as it was a week ago.”Six days after Upson County Commission Chairman Rusty Blackston called Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Martha Anne McCarty into his office and told her she was being relieved of her duties as of May 1, Blackston issued the above statement Thursday afternoon stating that McCarty will remain as EMA Director.

BOC approves grant request for turning lane on 36

One way that sports’ teams honor their former players, coaches, and managers is to retire the uniform number that they wore during their career. These numerals are normally displayed in the team’s stadium in some manner, usually on the outfield fence or wall. The concept of retired numbers is an interesting one to study. Since the 2014 baseballs season is just starting, I’ll take a short look at their retired numbers.

Upson-Lee golf team remains undefeated in match play

Last season the Knights missed a chance to advance to the GHSA 4A Sectionals by just three strokes. After posting a score of 343 in the Region 4 Tournament at Georgia National Golf Club in McDonough last season, Upson-Lee finished as the Region 4 Runners-Up to Spalding, but failed to shoot the Sectional qualifying score of 340.

No furlough days in school calendar

A downhill bail out at Montreat

I like watching the teens skate boarding at the skate park at the Civic Center. They do tricks I would never have tried when I was young. A group of them came before the Thomaston City Council last week to ask that the helmet requirement at the skate park be removed, because of the cost of helmets.
