Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock…

In case you’re wondering what I’m doing, I’m in the midst of writing Phil Hancock’s name 90 times, so I won’t forget it, again! For some reason, the name “Phil Knight” is stuck in my head, and for the second time in the last six months, I’ve written “Phil Knight” in a photo cutline instead of Phil Hancock…

Phil and I are in the Thomaston Sertoma Club, and on both occasions, Phil played a integral part in an activity that I covered. The first one was in presenting the 2012 Sertoma Service to Mankind Award to Anita Fillingim last spring. The second one was a couple of weeks ago, when Phil , along with other members of Sertoma, took part in distributing copies of the Declaration of Independence to students at Upson-Lee North Elementary…

This time, when I got ready to write the information for the Sertoma photo, I got up, went out to Miss Willie, our office manager, and verified with her that Phil’s last name is Hancock, not Knight. I then promptly went back into my office, sat down in front of the computer, and typed in “Phil Knight…”

The thing that really bugs me, besides messing up his name twice, is that I don’t know anyone named “Phil Knight.” I think it might be different if I did, because then I could claim I was getting two similar names of people I know mixed up. But I don’t know “Phil Knight.” I do know Chuck Knight, who was the Thomaston Kiwanis Club President last year. And yes, I also got his name wrong at least once – I called him “Chuck White.” Again, like “Phil Knight,” I don’t know a “Chuck White,” however, I do know a Joe White…

Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock, Phil Hancock…

Thankfully, both Phil Hancock and Chuck Knight have been very gracious and understanding about my boo-boos. And I promised them both that in the future I will write their names down correctly… I hope…

An incorrect name in a cutline? Oh, the horror!

Truly, you bring a level of quality and experience to local journalism that we're fortunate to have. I can't imagine anyone will crucify you for such a minor mistake (or two, as the case may be). Well, then again, there's always Phil Knight, er Hancock. :)
