The Upson-Lee Knights tennis teams hosted their first home match of the season on Tuesday, facing off with region foe North Clayton. Tuesday was the first region match for each team, and the Knights and Lady Knights wasted little time in their quest for a victory.

The Lady Knights defeated North Clayton 3-1, with Natalie Rosales, Rachel Bridges, and the tandem of Kaylee Neighbors and Cheyanne Dawson earning victories. Rosales, the Lady Knights’ No. 1 singles player, defeated her opponent 8-1. Upson-Lee’s No. 2 singles player, Rachel Bridges, shutout her opponent in an 8-0 victory, and the No. 1 doubles team of Neighbors and Dawson also earned an 8-0 shutout over their opponents.

The Knights squad earned a 4-1 victory in their match over the Eagles. The Knights’ No. 1 singles player, Andrew Fletcher, disposed of his opponent by an 8-4 score. Bo Hendrix, the Knights’ No. 2 singles player, cruised to an easy 8-0 shutout. Both of UL’s double teams earned victories. The No. 1 doubles team of Cody Wheeler and Kelton Raines earned an 8-0 shutout over their opponents, while the No. 2 doubles team of Caleb Ward and Shelby Perry earned a 6-1 victory in a game shortened due to time constraints.

The Knights hosted another Region 4 opponent on Thursday, when they took on Jonesboro at the ULHS courts. The results of the matches were not available by press time, but The Times will have the results in Tuesday’s edition.
