ZEBULON - Mr. Joseph Wayne Chapman, age 65, of Zebulon, passed away February 8, 2013 at his home.

He was born in Zebulon on April 1, 1947. He grew up in Zebulon and graduated from Pike County High School in 1965. He received his Associates Degree from Abraham Baldwin College and his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Georgia. Mr. Chapman was an excellent writer, avid reader, and well-known historian. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Haygood Chapman and his brother, Robert Chapman.

He is survived by his children: Layne Garrett and husband David of McKinney, Tex., and Brad Chapman of Carrollton; grandchildren: Ann, Kate and Trace Garrett; mother: Eunice P. Chapman of Zebulon; twin sister: Joyce C. Smith of Thomaston; nieces and nephews: Sabrina and Clint Sanders, Joey and Jennifer Smith, Codi Chapman and Kevin Chapman; and his beloved dog, Rex.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2013 in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Meansville Congregational Cemetery.
